draining's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- artist's statemen for columbia college website chicago future gallery, statement written 2006 My images capture my experience of the world as a bipolar, or manic-depressive, person. I have made images that show extreme discord, macabre elation, self-imposed isolation, self-harm, and melancholy. Most people who are bipolar are ashamed and dont talk about it. This is because of cultural stigma against people with mental illnesses. It keeps people silent and therefore more likely to commit suicide, an act in itself rife with misconceptions and stigma. Secrets and lies kill. Break the silence. Break the stigma. Find a cure.
